“Grand Prix” Competition Room

The Competition Room has become one of the favorite destinations for the National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention. This year is no exception. In our competition room, we’ll feature beautiful dolls in prize condition, (both vintage and newer dolls), as well as the results of the creative visions and handiwork of many of your fellow conventioneers. Several of the categories have been designed to embrace our Grand Tour theme, so we hope many conventioneers will be inspired to enter, and if not, certainly to stop by and admire the work and excellence of your fellow travelers.

At the time specified in the schedule, competition entries can be placed for judging. We’ve gathered an expert panel of judges for the competition room who will award their “Grand Prix” prizes. Once the entries are judged, the competition entries will be available for viewing and photographing by all conventioneers. In addition, we are going to award THREE PEOPLES’ CHOICE AWARDS! Voted on by all conventioneers, there will be an award for Favorite Diorama; one for Favorite Single Doll (Creative Entry); and one for Favorite Vintage Entry. Please make sure to visit the Grand Prix Competition room to vote for your favorites. The Peoples’ Choice Awards will be announced at the dinner on Saturday night.

There will be security guards on duty from the time the competition entries are placed in the competition room, throughout the viewing hours, until pick-up at the end of the competition schedule. During competition viewing, no purses or tote bags will be permitted inside the competition room, so you will need to leave them elsewhere when you view the competition entries.

We encourage people to enter the competition/display, even if your doll may not be in perfect condition. If it’s your favorite or just a nice doll that you would like to share with your fellow collectors, please consider displaying it in our room – people may have never seen that particular doll or outfit, regardless of condition. Click here for entry forms.

Regardless of whether you enter competition or not, please consider volunteering as a judge, apprentice judge, or helper. Competition Chair Ann Swindell will be happy to answer any questions you may have about competition or entries.  Ann can be contacted here.

Please click here to review the competition categories, and we look forward to seeing your entries!
