From the inspirations and ideas gleaned from Raphael's love for music, edgy hair designs, underground fashion and collection of celebrity dolls combined with Joseph’s flair for design and business and marketing talents, Edge of 17 was discovered. After careful design and planning, the concept sketches for the collections were created.
In the summer of 2006 Raphael learned about the National Barbie® Doll Collectors Conventions held around the U.S. Raphael's wheels started turning and in the summer of 2007 his love for rock music collided with his love of the doll world. Soon these edgy punk dolls began rockin' their way through the OOAK doll collecting world.
Joseph believes that their secret to success is "my southern charm doesn't hurt y'all"!
In addition to their rock and celebrity inspired creations they have donated many beautiful and edgy OOAK dolls to the National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention and other conventions, created an event centerpiece doll for the 2010 National Barbie® Doll Collectors Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, and were invited to participate in the Mattel Doll Artist Barbie Basics® challenge.
