Want to be an Insider?

Whether you're a Convention veteran or a First Timer, here are some tips and tricks to get the most out of your Convention experience.

Make Business Cards!

You will meet fun, new people from around the world who share your passion for doll collecting!  Bring along some business cards with your name, address and e-mail address to share with other conventioneers.  Many people make special “pink” themed cards just for the occasion!

Go With The Theme!

This convention has a Haute Couture theme.  It is glitz, glamour and all the excitement of the Modeling World.  Dressing to the theme is part of the whole Convention experience, and the majority of attendees do so.  Following the suggested dress code guidelines will enhance the festive atmosphere of the Convention.  There will be appropriate photo op spots so you can “Strike A Pose”!  Don’t be shy. It’s okay to be silly and, actually, it’s expected.

Join The Yahoo! Convention Group!

An online Yahoo! Group has been set up for the 2008 Convention.  It’s a fun way to meet people, banter about the upcoming Convention and share the excitement with fellow enthusiasts.  Over three hundred people already belong to the group so join in on the discussion!  Send an e-mail to: 2008NBDCConvention-subscribe@yahoogroups.com to sign up.

Pre-Order Official Convention Souvenirs

The official Convention souvenirs are especially awesome this year!  The best way to assure yourself that you will have all the souvenirs that you’d like is to pre-order them in the exact size and color that you want.  And, you’ll save 10% by pre-ordering by January 31, 2008.  The Souvenir Shop is always a popular stop for every conventioneer!  Avoid the long lines and the disappointment of someone else getting the last one of the item you really wanted!  There are many offerings—feel free to give in to the temptation to buy one of everything!  All of these souvenirs are being made in limited quantities and may sell out during the pre-order period.  These items also make excellent birthday, holiday, any-occasion or table gifts for your favorite Barbie® doll friends!  Want more incentive?  No sales tax on all pre-orders!  That’s an additional 7.85% savings!  (Sales tax will be collected on all purchases made at the Convention.)

Be In The Fashion Show!

The Fashion Show is always one of the most colorful and memorable events of the convention.  Consider participating in the show and dress to the nines!  Be a fashion model in your own life-sized Barbie® doll outfit!  You don’t have to be perfect to be in the fashion show.  Bring out your inner Barbie® doll, and we’ll see you on the runway!

Table Seating

You’ll be sitting at the same assigned table of 10 at each of the three major convention meal events.  This gives you the opportunity to socialize and get to know your tablemates better.  Each table has one assigned “host” who is in charge of the table and extends hospitality to all of the table guests.  The host distributes official convention gifts at each event.  Although not required, many table hosts and table guests enjoy bringing small gifts to give to their fellow table friends.  If you are interested in being a table host, submit your host sign-up information early to assure that you will get a spot.  If you are looking for a table seat assignment, consider joining the online convention group to find a table to sit with, or sign up for a table when you’re at the registration desk.

Raffle Room

Each year the Raffle Room features an extravaganza of dolls, outfits, accessories, gift baskets and unique items.  Raffle tickets are for sale in the Raffle Room.  Make things easier for yourself: bring your own address labels that include your registration number to place on the back of your raffle tickets.  Better yet, pre-order your tickets with your name and registration number pre-printed for you (Click here for the order form).

Check BarbieConvention.com for the latest Convention Information

The official website for the Convention is right here at www.barbieconvention.com.  We have all the relevant forms and schedules available here on this site, plus periodic updates, so please check back often.  This will also be the place to preview the many silent and live auction items that will be available at the Convention.

Registration Packet

Your registration packet contains lots of valuable information!  Refer to it often and plan to bring it with you to the convention so you have it handy as a reference and so that you can use the tentative schedule prior to your on-site registration.  At the on-site registration, you will receive your Convention bag with an updated schedule and lots of other surprises and goodies!

First Timers Orientation

If you’ve never attended a Barbie® Doll Convention, plan on attending the First Timers Orientation.  You can learn more about it on the Programs page.

Room Shopping

The salesroom will have an incredible collection of items from the top dealers and doll artists to collectors thinning their own collections. You may just find exactly what you have been looking for all year long!  In addition, room shopping will be open in the days before the convention and ending Thursday morning.  We will attempt to group the majority of people selling from their rooms on several floors as a convenience for shoppers as well as other guests of the hotel.  Check the bulletin boards on each floor to see who is selling where.

Signs/Advertisements

Please do not post sales information on walls or elevators.  Bulletin boards will be available on the guest room floors for anyone wishing to post advertisements.  Posting of sales information anywhere except designated bulletin boards may result in removal and/or damage charges to the advertiser.

Be Kind To Volunteers

The Steering Committee and Committee Chairs are 100% volunteers who have worked hard to make this Convention an enjoyable experience for you because, like you, we love our hobby.  Our volunteers are from many doll clubs and from the local charities who are involved with the Convention.  This is not a corporate or commercial enterprise that is designed to make money; our event is designed to delight you!  Rest assured that we will do our best to meet your needs as our guests.  We hope that you enjoy yourself to the max and will take a moment to express your appreciation to any of our volunteers.  It will make their day!
