The Art of Beading.png

The 2022 NBDCC is thrilled to bring you a new workshop experience that gives you the chance to learn from one of the most talented one-of-a-kind doll artists in the community today. Participants in The Art of Beading will receive an exclusive fashion kit designed by Ninimomo, which includes a fully finished 1920s-era dress, accessories, and elements you need to customize it to your liking. The dress is made to fit vintage and similar-sized dolls.

You’ll then learn how to embellish the fashion from one half of that amazing team, Marie Lebreton. We’ll offer two sessions for onsite participation. For those of you who are unable to secure a spot in one of the workshops, we’re offering a take-home fashion kit for preorder, which you can pick up in our Souvenir Salon once you arrive at Convention, with access to a video later at home that features Marie’s instruction.

Seats and kits are limited! Don’t miss out on your own one-of-a-kind workshop experience.

It’s time to bring out your inner artist with this memorable workshop experience. Using inspiration from the ‘20s, Sharon Hiscott will help you design a multimedia art piece that celebrates the style of the era. You’ll have the opportunity to choose a shape to paint – such as a purse, shoe, or dress – and then enjoy an afternoon creating. With a little giggle juice to keep you motivated (optional, of course), you’ll end up with a sparkling wall memento of your time celebrating A Decade of Destiny. No painting experience required.

Creating MidCentury Floral Accents.png

What would a mid-Century floral design look like? You’ll not only find out in this workshop, but you’ll also make your very own creation! Whether you make dioramas or are looking for something to display with your dolls, this workshop will provide you with the opportunity to bring mid-Century to life. No experience is needed, as Ric Markin will guide you through every step of the creative process. All materials are provided, and you’ll leave the workshop with a completed item.

Ric’s business, Capitol Designs, hosts a range of design and collector services. His formal art training provides the foundation for his work – from designing gallery displays and distinctive fashion styles, to designing toy prototypes. He creates the full world of the Barbie® doll – custom handbags, miniature florals, and millinery – and is widely known for his thoughtful and entertaining vignettes.

Learn some of the trade secrets used to create the retro hairstyles worn so beautifully by Joshard Originals dolls. Jeff Bouchard, one of the founders of Joshard Originals, will walk you through the process of creating a perfect “beehive” as well as how that style can be modified into different looks. He will also demonstrate curling and finishing tips for different types of doll hair, with instructions / tip sheets to take home.
